Sunday 2/12   3PM   LOUIS-AND-ELLA!

By Trent Armand Kendall is a fantasy about when legends Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald meet up in heaven for Judgement Day. This concert features lots of music – in fact, one showstopper after another – but also lots of humor, provocative moments and reminders of why these two were such icons of jazz.

2/24-2/26   A Raisin in the Sun

Set on Chicago's South Side, the plot of A Raisin in the Sun revolves around the divergent dreams and conflicts within three generations of the Younger family: son Walter Lee, his wife Ruth, his sister Beneatha, his son Travis and matriarch Lena. When her deceased husband's insurance money comes through, Mama Lena dreams of moving to a new home and a better neighborhood in Chicago. Walter Lee, a chauffeur, has other plans, however: buying a liquor store and being his own man. Beneatha dreams of medical school. The tensions and prejudice they face form this seminal American drama. Sacrifice, trust and love among the Younger family and their heroic struggle to retain dignity in a harsh and changing world is a searing and timeless document of hope and inspiration.

IN THE HEIGHTS

Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning composer of Hamilton, IN THE HEIGHTS tells the universal story of a vibrant barrio in New York's Washington Heights, a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. Miranda's miraculous award-winning score incorporates classic Latin rhythms, hiphop and modern Broadway to create a soundscape all his own-think West Side Story meets Rent. In the Heights will be directed and choreographed by Luis Salgado, one of the choreographers and performers from the original Broadway cast.
